Dec 04

Mr. and Mrs. Claus will arrive by carriage on the Courthouse Square at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, as First Friday presents Hometown Holiday. After their arrival, the jolly couple will meet with children inside Bind Cafe. Visits with Santa are sponsored by David E. Granger, Edward Jones Financial Adviser.

The beloved couple’s visit is just a small portion of the holiday fun planned at First Friday, which will take over downtown Kokomo from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7.

The Courthouse Lighting Ceremony will be 6 p.m., accompanied by caroling with Acacia Academy and the Main Street United Methodist Church Choir.

Be careful as The Grinch will be running around downtown throughout the evening. He will spread the word about Nadege’s Breakfast with Santa program at Oakbrook Church on Saturday, Dec. 8.

Children can write letters to Santa inside Gingerbread House Bakery on Buckeye Street and receive a free treat. The bakery is hosting a cookie-decorating station and there will also be a free marshmallow roasting station outside.

At Carpenters Local 615, children can make a woodcraft. At the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library, kids can make ornaments while teens and adults are invited to make word bracelets.

Sponsored by Security Federal Savings Bank, there will be free carriage rides departing from the Depot District on Buckeye Street. On Buckeye Street you will also find live Christmas music, a roasted marshmallow station and free hot chocolate from Oakbrook Church, and more. The Kokomo Downtown Farmer’s Market’s Winter Market Store will be open inside Bind Cafe.

Acacia Academy and Main Street United Methodist Church will present a live nativity scene program starting at 7 p.m. inside the Kokomo Family YMCA.

The Frozen Sandlot, a new ice rank on the field of the Kokomo Municipal Stadium, will have its grand opening during First Friday.

There will also be lots of holiday shopping around downtown.

“While you’re downtown, be sure to shop for your holiday gifts at all the fine retailers,” said Susan Alexander, manager of Downtown Initiatives for the Greater Kokomo Economic Development Alliance. “You can have a great evening out and also get all the gifts on your list checked off as you stroll beautiful downtown Kokomo.”

Other First Friday happenings include:

• Artworks Gallery will host a Christmas Open House.

• Artyside Studio will have a live painting demonstration at 210 N. Main St. Suite 100.
